Explorer Post
The Lake County Sheriff's Department is proud to announce that we have re-activated the Explorer Post for the Sheriff's Office. Currently the LCSD Post has eight Explorers assigned to the unit, but additional applications are arriving and being processed.
The Explorer Program is designed for those young adults, both young men and women, interested in a law enforcement career. For individuals to become Explorers with the Lake County Sheriff's Department, they must meet the minimum listed qualifications:
-
Be between the ages of 14 to 20 years old.
-
Maintain a 2.0 grade point average, while attending high school.
-
Be of good moral character.
-
Have a clear/clean criminal record.
-
Be able to attend the two scheduled meetings per month.
-
Be willing to volunteer time to attend Explorer functions.
-
Be willing to commit to the Explorer Code and exemplify the professional image of the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
Young people interested in becoming Explorers, who meet the minimum qualifications, will be exposed to various career opportunities, leadership experience, life skills, character education and learning how to serve. In law enforcement, Explorers will learn skills associated with, general public service, crime prevention, law enforcement, traffic control, basic criminal investigations, communications, record keeping, public speaking, and riding with deputies once the appropriate time and training standards have been met. Explorers will also participate in structured competition events with other Explorer Posts from other law enforcement agencies.
Anyone interested in applying to become an Explorer with the Lake County Sheriff's Department should contact either Dep. Carla Hocket, Dep. John Gregore or Dep. Gavin Wells at the Lake County Sheriff's Department Main Office, Mon. - Fri., 8:00AM to 5:00PM, at 262-4200.
