My car was towed by a deputy. How do I get it back?

Come to the Sheriffs Office at 1220 Martin Street. You MUST bring with you the following:

  1. Your VALID California Drivers License or another LICENSED driver
  2. CURRENT registration on the vehicle
  3. PROOF of CURRENT insurance on the vehicle
  4. $85.00 cash EXACT change.
We do not accept checks, money orders MasterCard or VISA-CASH Only If your vehicle was towed because your license was suspended or the person you let drive your car had a suspended license, your car will likely have a 30 day hold on it pursuant to California vehicle code section 14601.6 .

My car was impounded for thirty days because my license/the person driving my car license was suspended, can I get my belongings out of it?

The Sheriff’s Office has no objection to you getting your belongings out of the car. You must, however, work with the tow company that is storing it as they may have a lien or claim against the car and your belongings for their storage fees.

I was the victim/witness/suspect in a crime report. How do I get a copy of the report?

Typically, if your case is still under investigation, the report will not be released, until the case has been adjudicated. Suspects/defendants may obtain the report from their defense attorney. If your case was closed at your request or was for Information or insurance purposes or if the case has been adjudicated, you may come to the Sheriff’s Office at 1220 Martin Street, Lakeport between 8:00AM and 5:00PM and fill out a report request form . Reports cost $ .25 per page and can take up to 10 working days to produce.

How do I obtain a criminal background check on myself?

You may obtain a LOCAL (Sheriff’s Office ONLY-not Lakeport PD or Clearlake PD) criminal background check ON YOURSELF by completing an Application for Background Check form and bringing it to the Sheriff’s Office at 1220 Martin, Street Lakeport between 8:00AM. NOTE: We do not provide CII RAP SHEETS. If you require your RAP sheet, you must contact the California Department of Justice.

How do I find out if my friend/wife/husband/child is in jail?

If it is an emergency CALL 911! If it is not an emergency cal 263-2331 and a dispatcher will take the information and send a deputy to contact. You need not come to the Sheriff’s Office to make a report we are happy to come to you!

Livescan is done by appointment only. Call 707-262-0626 to schedule an appointment.

I want to drop the charges I have filed against someone. How do I do this?

If the Sheriff’s Office has already sent the report to the District Attorney’s Office for charge filing, you will need to call them at 707-263-2251.

I need a deputy to stand by while I get my belongings / exchange children, etc. What should I do?

The Sheriff’s Department will provide a Civil Stand-by ONLY after the circumstances are reviewed and approved by the on duty Patrol Supervisor. To request a Civil Stand-by call the Sheriff’s Dispatch Center at 707-263-2331.
