Mother-Wise is a non-profit program dedicated to early identification and treatment of maternal mental health complications, most commonly Post Partum Depression. With the help of community partners, Mother-Wise promotes maternal mental health in Lake County by connecting new and perinatal moms with effective tools, resources and a local network of peer support to help them understand that they are not alone.
Maternal Mental Health complications are the most common health complication of childbirth, affecting 15-20% of perinatal women. These complications are treatable once diagnosed. Screening is the first step towards treatment and wellness. Every year approximately 600-700 babies are born in Lake County. Statistically, up to 140 Lake County moms will suffer from these mental health complications annually.
When a new or expecting mom connects with Mother-Wise they can expect non-judgmental, compassionate support. Once connected, the team will perform regular check-ins and maternal mental health screenings by phone and/or in person. The mom will also have additional options of connecting with a network of local moms, sharing via the Mom-to-Mom closet and attending hosted social events to connect with other local moms. Mother-Wise maintains an open, no-wrong-door policy where everyone is welcomed with enthusiasm.
