YOUR RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT (Miranda Case)

Under the case of Miranda v. Arizona, the Supreme Court of the United States held that you have certain constitutional rights before you are questioned by police and are in custody.

The Rights:

  1. You have the Right to Remain Silent
  2. Anything you say can be used against you.
  3. You have the right to an attorney before and during any questioning.
  4. If you cannot afford an attorney, an attorney will be appointed for you before any questioning is done.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are being questioned by the police, you should contact the Public Defender’s Office before saying anything.
